Schutzhund Australia is dedicated to preserving and improving the integral, characteristic service and sporting capabilities of all FCI-recognised working dog breeds. I.e.: German Shepherd Dogs, Belgium Shepherds, Rottweilers, Dobermanns, Giant Schnauzers, Bouviers etc., by providing the essential infrastructure, facilities and formal administrative framework neccessary to educate and develop dog and handler teams up to a competitive level of dog trialling in Australian Schutzhund / VPG / IPO events, as outlined in the International Sport rules for Working Dogs.
Schutzhund Australia maintains a system of trial records for working titles styled on that of the SV e.V. The Official Schutzhund Australia “Rules for Trials” are those adopted by FCI/VDH/SV, with Australian variances. Schutzhund Australia also provides the following services:
- Schutzhund Australia sanctioned Working Trials using only licensed Working Judges and licensed Helpers;
- Certification programme of Helpers and the issue of Helper Passports (passports are signed by the judge at the completion of each Trial);
- Judge’s Certification Programme and annual Judge’s College for the licensing as well as ongoing education of Schutzhund Australia Judges;
- Signed/stamped Certificates issued to successful trial entrants at the completion of each Trial;
- Score Books (for dogs are completed and signed by the Judge at the completion of each Trial);
- Sports Passes (for handlers are completed and signed by the Judge at the completion of each Trial);
- A national website with sections for State branches and affiliates ( www.schutzhundaustralia.com/clubs ) as the official information source of the Organization;
- Official Schutzhund Australia Rulebook;
- An annual Australian Open National Championship Trial, Open State Championship Trials and clubs trials;
- An Awards Programme - points are awarded for a handler’s performance and these go towards Schutzhund Australia Sports Medals;
- Public Liability cover for all Schutzhund Australia members;
- DVD / CD national library
Schutzhund Australia accepts working titles obtained in trials sponsored by other recognised Schutzhund organizations, for example the Verein fuer Deutsche Schaeferhunde (SV) in Germany, United Schutzhund Clubs of America (USCA) as well as other recognized Australian Schutzhund/IPO organisations. All scorebooks issued by these recognised organizations are accepted by Schutzhund Australia, as are titles awarded by accredited trial judges of recognized organisations.
Schutzhund Australia provides clubs with qualified Trial Judges for sanctioned events. The Schutzhund Australia Judge’s Program trains and certifies Schutzhund Australia members as authorized judges and clubs may also schedule certified foreign Judges for events through Schutzhund Australia.
Schutzhund Australia allows one (only) Full Member Chapter Club to represent each state, with New Zealand counting as a state branch, as well there being provision for additional non-voting affiliated clubs to host Schutzhund Australia events. Schutzhund Australia has a Board of Management and Administrator of Records to oversee and direct the administrative operations of the organization.
